As opposed to the traditional method of replacing two or more teeth in a row, the implant-retained bridge is completely self-sufficient. Therefore, instead of being affixed to the surrounding teeth, the fixture is secured by being attached to a surgically inserted dental implant. That means you won’t have to worry about any shifting or bone degeneration.

The most effective way of replacing several or a full set of teeth is by your dentist first placing a series of dental implants. Then, either a partial or full set of dentures can be attached.

The difference between implant-retained dentures in Midlothian and the traditional method is that you won’t have to worry about the appliances embarrassingly falling out. Instead, with the aid of special snaps, they will be securely held in place permanently (called a hybrid denture), or they’ll be removable (called overdentures).

The dental implant process is completed in several phases—the first step being to prepare the treatment area. This may include any restorative care needed, extracting teeth, or performing a bone graft to build up the underlying jawbone. The second phase is for your dentist to make incisions and then insert one or more dental implants.

After the initial implant placement, you’ll need time to heal and for the fixture to fuse with your existing bone through a process called osseointegration. After this part of the process has successfully concluded, we’ll invite you back to our office to have an abutment placed, which acts as an anchor that allows the final restoration to be securely attached, and we’ll also take bite impressions so your custom restorations can be designed. At your final visit, you’ll be fully restored, and you’ll leave with a new and improved set of teeth.
